Creatures of Grace? The human condition under challenge.
With all the happenings that are plaguing the world currently, I thought it might be interesting to check out what human beings actually are. We have been given free life from wherever you think that comes, and the capacity to acknowledge and study our surroundings and the universe. A wonderful gift indeed. We also have freedom to observe and react to fellow members of humankind.
Why are we so aggressive?
The fact that countries and religions and other ‘divisions’ in life are adamant that their culture, lifestyle, and traditions are the ‘only way’ appears to be a function of the freedom we have been given. However, the vast majority of us are brought up in bubbles of seclusion [even these days in the presence of global communication and social media] and have little or no interest in the way other people live, behave and behold the planet. It is this separation that can lead to self-righteousness and a tendency to decry anything different, or even worse, pronounce it as the enemy. It is also a great breeding ground for the rise of ‘leaders’ who enforce separation and preach it as a necessity for survival and a means to their own power. This is particularly true if such feelings are historically enduring.
Unfortunately, it appears to be part of the human psyche to protect bubbles and not be willing to ‘give and take’.
Has it always been so?
Probably, yes. I see nothing in human history books [whether they are right, wrong, or biased] to suggest that this planet has ever been a cohesive unit led by creatures of one will and the wish to create harmony worldwide. I am happy to be proven wrong – if anyone can suggest an era with humans present where the planet has been one united whole without violence of any kind.
In the past maybe it was – maybe the rise of a civilization that occurred well before the advent of human beings. That is possible, but it is likely that we will never know. From our perspective universal time eventually erases all things.
What is the solution?
Or should that be – is there a solution? There is only one solution as far as I can see, and that is the rise of a person, a philosophy, or a global way of life that totally rejects self-serving, outdated modes of viewing the world as a stage for territorial gain, eradication of ‘unlike’ ways of life, or historical vengeance. Should such attitudes persevere the future is bleak indeed for planet Earth.
Summary
So who is this person, creed or species? At the moment it seems to me that it will have to come from one, or a combination, of the following sources:
A huge global catastrophe
An outside influence [spiritual or otherwise]
An intentional interference with the psyche of the human race – likely from the Universe itself
A complete humankind memory loss accompanied by the will to start over
